Biden Dealt Another Major Blow
In a major blow to the Biden administration’s regulatory agenda, the U.S. Senate has passed a resolution rolling back aggressive new appliance rules—delivering a major win for Senator Jon Husted (R-Ohio) just 100 days into office.
The Senate voted 52-46 to approve Husted’s joint resolution, which blocks the Department of Energy’s latest rule mandating stricter energy efficiency standards, compliance tests, and labeling mandates for over 20 common household and commercial appliances—including dishwashers, central air conditioners, washers, and dryers.
“This is about putting American families and manufacturers first,” Husted said. “The Biden-era mandates did nothing to improve energy conservation but added more red tape, higher costs, and fewer choices for hardworking Americans.”
Husted emphasized that his bill would cut government waste and protect consumer freedom, stating:
“My very first bill to reach President Trump’s desk eliminates job-killing regulations instead of creating new ones. This is a clear win for common sense.”
The Biden appliance rule was part of a broader push by the administration to tighten environmental controls—moves critics say hurt seniors, raise energy bills, and limit appliance reliability. Husted’s resolution now awaits signature by President Trump, who has made slashing overregulation a cornerstone of his second-term agenda.
“This was unnecessary government overreach,” Husted told The Hill. “There were no measurable gains in energy savings—just more paperwork, higher costs, and fewer choices for the American people.”
The resolution marks a symbolic and practical shift away from top-down mandates, reinforcing the GOP’s stance that personal freedom, energy independence, and cost savings must take priority over bloated bureaucratic control.
