In a fiery rebuke of judicial misconduct, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi blasted a Milwaukee judge who was arrested for allegedly obstructing a federal immigration operation. Bondi vowed that no member of the judiciary will be allowed to shield illegal immigrants from law enforcement without facing serious consequences.
Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested Friday by the FBI for reportedly helping an illegal migrant escape detention. According to Axios, the incident has sent shockwaves through an already strained legal system grappling with the nation’s illegal immigration crisis.
“Our judiciary is falling apart in some places,” Bondi declared. “Judges who think they are above the law are sadly mistaken. If you obstruct justice or harbor fugitives, we will find you, and we will prosecute you. No exceptions.”
The alleged incident occurred on April 18 at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrived with an arrest warrant. Reports state that instead of assisting law enforcement, Judge Dugan redirected the agents and allowed the illegal migrant to slip away through a private side door.
This wasn’t an isolated event. In recent months, ICE agents have conducted multiple arrests at the same courthouse, detaining illegal immigrants in both March and early April. The courthouse has become a hotspot for immigration enforcement efforts.
Bondi made it clear: obstructing justice, aiding illegal immigration, or destroying evidence will not be tolerated.
“If you are caught interfering with lawful immigration operations, you will be held accountable,” Bondi said. “The days of lawlessness are over.”
Pace University Law Professor Bennett Gershman commented that Judge Dugan’s arrest doesn’t necessarily set a legal precedent but underscores the Trump administration’s commitment to restoring law and order. Gershman noted the tough reality illegal immigrants now face: comply with court orders and risk immediate arrest by federal authorities.
