Trump wants law and order!

NEWARK, NJ — In a bold move applauded by law-and-order advocates, President Donald Trump’s appointee and longtime legal ally, Alina Habba, announced she is opening an official investigation into New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Matt Platkin. The probe centers on allegations that top state officials directed police to ignore thousands of immigration warrants—potentially shielding illegal immigrants from deportation.

State Officials Accused of Undermining Federal Immigration Law

The announcement comes after an investigative report from Shore News Network exposed an internal memo from New Jersey State Police Col. Patrick Callahan. The memo allegedly shows that Murphy and Platkin instructed officers to disregard newly issued immigration warrants entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC)—a critical tool used by federal agencies like ICE and the FBI.

According to Habba, these instructions directly contradict federal immigration law and violate standing executive orders designed to protect American citizens and uphold border security.

“Governor Murphy’s website literally lists ‘dos and don’ts’ for police—and those directives tell officers not to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement,” Habba said on Fox News’ Hannity. “That’s not just reckless—it’s illegal.”

Investigation Signals Crackdown on Sanctuary State Policies

The reported actions align with the state’s controversial 2018 “Immigrant Trust Directive,” a policy implemented by former Attorney General Gurbir Grewal. That directive limits how much state and local police can assist federal immigration enforcement.

But Habba says enough is enough.

“This is a clear obstruction of justice,” she declared. “We’re here to enforce federal immigration law, remove violent criminal aliens, and protect American communities. If any state official gets in the way—there will be legal consequences.”

She warned that state leaders who shield illegal immigrants from deportation may face charges including obstruction, concealment, and harboring—crimes punishable under New Jersey state law.

Local Law Enforcement Can—and Should—Cooperate with ICE

Though state police may not have federal jurisdiction, Habba reminded the public that they can—and must—legally cooperate with agencies like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“This isn’t about politics—it’s about public safety,” Habba said. “And if you’re a mayor or a governor using your power to protect illegal immigrants instead of law-abiding Americans, we will investigate and prosecute.”

Her message was directed especially at Democratic strongholds like Paterson, where Mayor Andre Sayegh recently sparked outrage by calling his city the “capital of Palestine.”

Murphy Doubles Down, Says Migrant Lives at His Own Home

Governor Murphy has not commented on the probe, but in February, he told reporters that he and First Lady Tammy Murphy were housing a migrant with unresolved legal status in their Monmouth County residence.

“She’s living above our garage,” Murphy said, taunting federal authorities. “Good luck to the feds coming in to try to get her.”

Such statements have only intensified calls from conservatives for a full legal reckoning.

Conservative Leaders Applaud Tough Stance on Immigration

Across the country, conservative leaders have praised Habba’s firm response and commitment to upholding immigration law under President Trump’s America First agenda.

This investigation sends a clear message: sanctuary policies that defy federal law will not go unchallenged. Law enforcement officers must be allowed to do their jobs—without political interference.
