Will GOP Keep House And Senate Control In 2026 Midterms?

GOP Doubles Down On Federal Spending

“It’s time to take our country back from reckless spenders,” says Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., in a powerful new interview that’s striking a chord with fiscally responsible Americans.

Appearing on Newsmax’s Newsline, Johnson didn’t mince words: Congress must conduct a full review of federal spending—line by line—if we’re ever going to rein in the exploding national debt.

“If we follow President Trump’s lead and return to pre-pandemic spending levels, we could dramatically reduce our financial burden,” Johnson said.

For hardworking Americans concerned about rising inflation, higher taxes, and the growing strain on Social Security and Medicare, Johnson’s warning couldn’t come at a more critical time.

The Hidden Costs in Washington’s Budget

According to the Wisconsin senator, only 24% of the federal budget is considered “discretionary” spending—meaning Congress actually debates it. The other 76%? It’s labeled as “mandatory” and continues on autopilot, year after year, without meaningful oversight.

“There’s over $1.3 trillion in so-called mandatory spending that’s never reviewed,” Johnson revealed. “And it’s not all going to Social Security or Medicare. A massive chunk of it funds bloated, unaccountable programs that Americans never approved.”

Johnson believes the only solution is a complete audit of the federal budget—a process that hasn’t been seriously attempted in decades.

A Plan Backed by President Trump

In a recent op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, Johnson unveiled a bold proposal to establish a bipartisan panel that would scrutinize every federal dollar being spent. He emphasized that this would not only be a learning opportunity for Congress but a step toward true fiscal responsibility.

The idea is already gaining momentum—President Donald Trump has voiced early support for Johnson’s plan, signaling a return to the kind of responsible leadership America needs.

For seniors living on fixed incomes, small business owners, veterans, and middle-class families feeling the pinch of Biden-era economic policies, Johnson’s proposal is a refreshing dose of common sense.

America can’t afford more waste, more debt, or more excuses. It’s time to restore accountability—and Sen. Ron Johnson is leading the charge.
