Trump Puts Venezuela On Notice

President Trump has announced his decision to terminate the Biden administration’s “Concession Agreement” with Venezuela, citing the country’s failure to meet its obligations, especially when it comes to deporting violent criminals. On Truth Social, Trump declared, “I am now ordering that the useless and unmet Biden ‘Concession Agreement’ be removed at the beginning of March from being renewed. Thank you!”

This move is a direct reversal of the concessions made by President Biden under the controversial oil deal signed on November 26, 2022. As part of the agreement, Biden allowed Chevron to resume oil drilling in Venezuela, a country sitting on the world’s largest oil reserves. Despite this, Venezuela’s oil production has been hampered by U.S. sanctions and the country’s own lack of investment in the industry. By easing some of the sanctions, Biden hoped to encourage economic stability, but the deal has faced heavy scrutiny.

Although Trump did not specifically mention Chevron in his post, the company’s activities were directly tied to the deal. However, Reuters reported that no new licenses were issued during this period, raising questions about the scope and transparency of the concessions made by the Biden administration.

Trump also pointed to the lack of progress on another critical issue—the transportation of criminals who were sent from Venezuela to the United States. According to Trump, Maduro’s regime has failed to live up to its agreement to quickly repatriate these criminals, undermining both U.S. security and the credibility of the Biden administration’s negotiations with the Venezuelan government.

In his statement, Trump emphasized the importance of holding foreign regimes accountable and protecting American citizens from criminal elements. He warned that the Biden administration’s leniency only weakens the U.S.’s position on the global stage. As the March 1st deadline approaches, Trump’s termination of the “Concession Agreement” sends a strong message about the need for tough, fair policies in dealing with hostile foreign governments.
