Kamala Preparing For 2028?

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is once again at the center of 2028 presidential speculation after a Republican congresswoman claimed Harris has been making calls as she considers her political future.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., said Monday that she has heard Harris is reaching out as potential presidential contenders begin positioning themselves years before the next election.

During an appearance on Newsmax’s “Finnerty,” Luna questioned whether Harris still believes she can secure the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028.

“What I think is more weird is that Kamala Harris still thinks that she has a chance at winning the nomination, and apparently, she’s making calls from what I hear,” Luna said.

Luna did not identify whom Harris had allegedly contacted or provide additional evidence about the reported conversations.

That distinction is important: Harris has not announced a 2028 campaign, and Luna’s statement represents her account of what she says she has heard rather than confirmation that Harris is actively seeking the nomination.

Harris Keeps the Door Open to a 2028 Presidential Run

Harris has continued to leave her political options open while increasing her activity within the Democratic Party.

She has not publicly committed to seeking the presidency again and has repeatedly indicated that her immediate priority is helping Democrats in the 2026 midterm elections.

At the same time, Harris has remained in contact with Democratic officials, activists and supporters, fueling questions about whether she could eventually launch another White House campaign.

Axios reported in September that Harris had recently increased her outreach to Democratic political figures while continuing to deliberate over her future.

Her decision could have major consequences for a Democratic presidential field that is already attracting attention well before the 2028 primaries.

Former Harris Advisers Question Whether She Will Run Again

Despite continued speculation surrounding Harris, several people who previously worked closely with her appear doubtful that another presidential campaign will happen.

Axios surveyed eight former senior Harris advisers about whether they expected her to enter the 2028 race.

Five said they believed Harris probably would not run, two considered the possibility roughly even, and only one believed she probably would seek the presidency again.

Those responses highlight the uncertainty surrounding Harris’s future even among people familiar with her political operation.

Harris herself has maintained that she has not reached a final decision.

Harris Returns to the Campaign Trail

Harris has nevertheless become more visible politically.

The former vice president has campaigned for Democratic candidates and is expected to make additional appearances ahead of the November midterm elections.

Recent activity has included campaigning in Michigan, where she has supported Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.

Campaigning for other Democrats allows Harris to remain connected to party activists and voters while avoiding an immediate decision about 2028.

It also means virtually every major appearance is likely to be examined for clues about whether she intends to seek the White House again.

The 2024 Election Remains Part of the 2028 Discussion

Any potential Harris campaign would come after her loss to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

That result has inevitably become part of the discussion surrounding whether Democratic voters would support another Harris candidacy.

At the same time, the 2028 Democratic primary remains far enough away that the eventual field could look considerably different from current speculation.

Numerous governors, senators and former administration officials have already been discussed as possible contenders, but most have not formally announced their intentions.

Harris remains among the party’s best-known national figures, which helps explain why uncertainty surrounding her plans continues to generate attention.

Ron DeSantis Also Emerges in 2028 Conversation

Luna’s Newsmax interview also turned to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his potential future in national Republican politics.

DeSantis previously sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 before ending his campaign and backing Trump.

Luna praised his record as Florida governor and suggested he could have several possible paths after leaving office, including another presidential campaign or a position in the Trump administration.

“I am all for bringing the A talent,” Luna said when asked about DeSantis.

She also floated another possibility: a future nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Luna pointed to DeSantis’s legal background and experience in Congress and as Florida governor when discussing that possibility.

“Never say never,” she said. “Ron DeSantis sounds pretty good to me.”

Her comments reflected her own preferences and did not indicate that such a nomination is currently planned.

2028 Presidential Maneuvering Is Already Beginning

Although the 2028 election remains years away, prominent political figures are already facing questions about their intentions.

Harris is likely to remain a major part of that conversation until she definitively rules out another campaign or formally enters the race.

For now, the known facts remain limited.

Harris continues to participate in Democratic politics, has increased her outreach and has not ruled out seeking the presidency again.

At the same time, several former advisers reportedly believe she ultimately will stay out of the race.

Luna’s claim that Harris is making calls adds another layer to the speculation, but it does not establish that a 2028 campaign has been decided.

Until Harris makes an announcement herself, the Democratic presidential field — and her place within it — remains unsettled.
