Trump Trashes The Fed Again
President Donald Trump unleashed a blistering attack Sunday on the Federal Reserve’s multi-billion-dollar renovation project — calling it a massive waste of taxpayer money — just hours before promising a bold new crackdown on crime and urban decay in Washington, D.C.
Trump’s Warning: “We Want Our Capital Back”
In a Truth Social announcement, Trump said Monday’s 10:00 A.M. press conference at the White House will focus on ending “crime, murder, and chaos” in the nation’s capital — while restoring “cleanliness” and the “once-beautiful” appearance of the city.
The 45th president blasted the Fed’s $3.1 billion headquarters renovation, arguing the project could have been completed more beautifully, in far less time, and for only $50 to $100 million.
“We would have saved $3 billion, avoided traffic nightmares, and stopped the endless construction mess,” Trump said.
Direct Hit on Fed Chair Jerome Powell
Trump singled out Fed Chair Jerome Powell, a longtime opponent of his economic vision. He accused Powell of mismanaging both the renovation and U.S. interest rate policy, which Trump says is holding back economic growth.
While Trump briefly suggested the bloated costs might be grounds to remove Powell, he later stepped back — but repeated that the Fed’s refusal to cut rates during a time of economic uncertainty is hurting American workers and families.
Powell Defends Project as “Historic”
Powell responded by saying the massive cost was due to renovations on two 1930s-era historic buildings on the National Mall. After Trump visited the Fed on July 24, he said the renovation price had jumped from $2.5 billion to $3.1 billion. Powell countered that the figure included other prior projects but added it was an “honor” to host the president.
Crime Crisis Pushes Federal Response
Trump’s crackdown plans come as federal law enforcement patrols ramp up in D.C. This follows the arrest of two 15-year-olds accused of carjacking and beating Edward Coristine — a former Department of Government Efficiency staffer known as “Big Balls.”
Despite official claims that crime rates are at a 30-year low, Trump insists the city has become unsafe and filthy. He’s even floated the idea of federalizing D.C. to restore order.
New Task Force to Restore Safety and Beauty
Trump has already signed an executive order creating a special task force to make the capital “safe and beautiful” again.
On Sunday, he issued a clear warning:
“Be prepared! There will be no ‘Mr. Nice Guy.’ We want our Capital BACK.”
