Nobody expected this.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is slamming a federal appeals court after judges blocked the Trump administration’s push to stop illegal immigrants from obtaining commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs). The stunning ruling—handed down in Washington, D.C.—has set off alarm bells for millions of Americans worried about road safety, border security, and the chaos created under President Biden.

Duffy, appearing on The Ingraham Angle, made it clear the administration is not backing down.

“We’re not going to take this lying down. We’re going to do all we can to protect the American people,” Duffy said, warning that the court’s decision puts ordinary families at risk.

The now-blocked rule was introduced after a horrific tractor-trailer crash in Fort Pierce, Florida, where illegal immigrant driver Harjinder Singh was accused of causing a collision that killed three innocent people. In response, the Trump administration moved quickly to stop illegal immigrants from getting CDLs, calling it a critical emergency measure to protect American lives.

But the appeals court claimed the Department of Transportation did not follow the proper procedural steps and failed to justify how the rule would improve safety—despite growing public concern about rising roadway dangers and the surge of unvetted migrants allowed into the country.

Judges also pointed to federal data stating that immigrants hold about 5% of all CDLs but account for only 0.2% of fatal crashes. However, critics say those numbers overlook a much larger safety issue: the Biden administration has allowed millions of illegal immigrants to enter, handed them work authorizations, and created new incentives for unlicensed and untrained individuals to get behind the wheel of heavy commercial vehicles.

Duffy placed responsibility squarely where it belongs—on President Biden’s open-border policies.

“We believed this was absolutely necessary to protect Americans,” Duffy said. “This is an emergency. The court says they want more data. I say—turn on the television and look at the rising danger every American can see with their own eyes.”

For older Americans who remember when the rule of law mattered and public safety came first, this ruling is yet another example of how the system now bends over backward for illegal immigrants while pushing aside the needs and safety of American citizens.

The Trump administration is expected to fight the decision aggressively, setting the stage for another major legal showdown over border security, public safety, and the growing consequences of Biden’s immigration policies.
