This didn’t turn out how he expected.
Recently, musician Neil Young demanded that music and podcast platform Spotify choose between him and podcaster Joe Rogan, but they cannot have both.
Young was unhappy about Rogan speaking so freely about a number of topics and wants Spotify to cancel Rogan for sharing his opinion with millions of Americans.
“I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” Young stated. “Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule.”
Young the later once again stated, “I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform. They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both.”
Now, Young’s plan has appeared to have blown up in his face and Spotify has decided to Remove all of Neil Young’s Music from their platform and are sticking with Rogan instead.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Spotify responded to the story and said that while Young removed his demands from his official website, he still stood firm with his opinions and after much discussion between Young’s team, Warner Music Group Corp.’s Warner Records, and Spotify they decided to pull his music.
Spotify’s decision is not surprising. In 2020 they signed a deal with Rogan where they would pay him $100 million to host his very popular show exclusively on their platform.
