This is not okay.
Comedian Margaret Cho is facing intense criticism after posting a social media video in which she mocked the death of longtime Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham and made remarks that many viewers interpreted as referencing President Donald Trump.
The video quickly spread across social media, prompting widespread condemnation from conservatives who argued that the comments crossed a line during a time of mourning. Critics said political disagreements should never lead to celebrating a person’s death or implying that another public figure could be next.
The controversy has once again fueled debate over the increasingly hostile tone of America’s political discourse.
Margaret Cho’s Video Sparks Outrage
In the now-viral clip, Cho mocked Graham shortly after news of his death became public.
“Bye Lindsey Graham. From the closet to the coffin.”
She later mentioned former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell before making another remark that many social media users viewed as suggesting President Donald Trump could be next.
“Also yeah, McConnell. So, it’s McConnell, Lindsey Graham… it does happen in threes. Hope.”
Cho also included political hashtags such as #Resist and #FDT in her post, adding to the backlash.
Many conservatives accused the comedian of celebrating tragedy rather than showing compassion for a family grieving the loss of a loved one.
Lindsey Graham Dies at 71
Sen. Lindsey Graham died Saturday night at the age of 71 after serving more than three decades in Congress.
According to preliminary findings released following an autopsy, Graham died from an aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
His Senate office confirmed that additional testing remains underway before the official death certificate is finalized.
A statement from Graham’s office explained that toxicology and microscopic examinations must be completed before the final cause and manner of death are formally certified.
The senator’s passing prompted an outpouring of condolences from lawmakers, public officials, and supporters across the country.
Mitch McConnell Provides Health Update
Cho’s comments also referenced former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, who recently suffered a fall that resulted in an extended hospital stay.
McConnell released a statement Sunday reassuring Americans that his condition continues to improve.
According to McConnell, doctors determined he did not suffer broken bones, a concussion, stroke, heart attack, tumors, or internal bleeding.
The Kentucky Republican said he remains focused on his recovery and thanked supporters for their prayers and well wishes.
Political Rhetoric Under Growing Scrutiny
Cho’s video has reignited discussion about political rhetoric and whether public figures have a responsibility to show restraint following the death of elected officials.
Many conservatives argued that regardless of political differences, moments involving illness or death should remain above partisan attacks.
Others pointed to the broader trend of increasingly heated political commentary on social media, where controversial posts often generate significant attention and strong emotional reactions.
As the video continued circulating online, thousands of users weighed in, with many calling the comments disrespectful and inappropriate.
Conservatives React
The backlash against Cho spread rapidly across conservative social media accounts, where many users criticized the comedian for what they viewed as celebrating the death of a political opponent.
Supporters of Graham said the senator deserved respect for his decades of public service regardless of political disagreements.
The controversy also renewed concerns among many conservatives about the increasingly personal nature of political attacks in modern American culture.
Whether Cho intended her remarks as satire or political commentary, the video has become another flashpoint in the nation’s ongoing debate over civility, respect, and the boundaries of political speech.
