Here’s what conservative voters need to know.

Vice President JD Vance has taken a commanding early lead in the race to become the Republican Party’s next presidential nominee, according to a new national poll that gives conservatives their first major look at the potential 2028 field.

While the next presidential election is still years away and no candidate has officially entered the race, the survey suggests many Republican voters already view Vance as the natural heir to President Donald Trump’s America First movement.

New Poll Gives Vance Massive Republican Lead

The latest Big Data Poll found Vance receiving 35.4% support among prospective Republican primary voters, putting him comfortably ahead of every other potential candidate.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio placed second with 16.5%, meaning Vance currently enjoys more than a two-to-one advantage over his closest rival.

The remaining Republican contenders finished well behind:

  • Ron DeSantis: 7.1%
  • Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: 6.5%
  • Ted Cruz: 4.4%
  • Other potential candidates: Below 4%

Another 12.1% of Republican voters remain undecided, while 2.5% said they would choose someone not included in the survey.

Among likely Republican primary voters, Vance’s lead expanded even further. He captured 36.6% support compared with Rubio’s 17.5%, reinforcing his position as the early favorite.

Republican Base Continues Rallying Around Vance

The survey indicates Vance’s support extends across nearly every major segment of the Republican coalition.

According to the polling data, he outperformed Rubio among:

  • Republican voters
  • Independent voters
  • Men
  • Women
  • Hispanic voters

Those numbers suggest Vance has built broad appeal within the GOP as he continues serving alongside President Trump.

Although the Republican primary remains years away, early polling often reflects which leaders have built the strongest relationships with the party’s base and enjoy the highest national profile.

Democrats Have Their Own Early Front-Runner

The Democratic field also remains unsettled.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris led Democratic respondents with 29.1%, while California Governor Gavin Newsom followed at 15%.

Other Democrats receiving support include New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

None of the potential Democratic or Republican candidates has formally announced a presidential campaign.

Poll Matches Broader National Trend

The Big Data Poll mirrors several recent national surveys that have consistently placed Vance at or near the top of the Republican field.

Political analysts caution that polling conducted this far ahead of the first primary contests primarily measures current popularity, public visibility, and enthusiasm rather than predicting who will ultimately secure each party’s nomination.

Still, strong early support can provide an important advantage by helping potential candidates build fundraising networks, volunteer organizations, and national momentum.

The survey was conducted June 26-28, 2026, among 1,261 registered Republican voters and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 1.8 percentage points.

What JD Vance Says About 2028

Despite growing speculation, Vance has repeatedly declined to announce plans for a White House campaign.

During a recent interview with Megyn Kelly, the vice president said any decision about 2028 would come only after the 2026 midterm elections, emphasizing that his current priority is helping President Trump implement the administration’s agenda.

In a separate appearance on CBS Sunday Morning alongside Second Lady Usha Vance, he said President Trump would likely support whatever decision he eventually makes but noted that the two have not discussed the next presidential race in detail.

Earlier this year, Vance also dismissed questions about future campaign politics after President Trump praised the idea of a possible Vance-Rubio ticket. He said Americans would likely view it negatively if he began focusing on another office so early in his term, adding that it was one of the last political subjects he wanted to discuss.

What It Means Going Forward

With more than two years remaining before the first Republican presidential primaries, plenty can change. New candidates could enter the race, political priorities may shift, and future debates could reshape the field.

For now, however, the latest polling sends a clear message: JD Vance has established himself as the early favorite to carry the America First movement into the 2028 presidential election if he ultimately decides to run.
